Mad Maine Vintage Shop

This little blog will chronicle my ventures into selling vintage items in a local antique market.
My booth is called Mad Maine Vintage Shop - it features items inspired by a certain popular TV show,
and I am located in lovely Maine. Viva Vintage!

Sold Pictures

It is time to show some of the stuff that has sold the last couple of months.  Despite my last hectic weeks when life took over my booth playing time, I have sold just as much as I did for Christmas!  Who knew February and early March would be so good?  Well, then again, what else is there to do in Maine during winter besides ruining knees while skiing or antique shopping? I should have done the latter myself.

Lots of random things sold, from that horse needlepoint picture to insulting ammo boxes.  TV-trays, aprons, pans, ashtray, airplane and magazine holder all found new homes.

It finally sold!  This old school desk had been with me since I moved into the bigger booth and had sort of become part of the booth itself.  I also used to store my handbag, cell phone and keys in there when I was organizing my booth.  Now where to put it all?

The lamb planter sold even though I had (unintentionally) mislabeled it as a poodle.  Also, the white hairdryer case sold after I removed the hairdryer inside and relabeled it "Retro White Train Case".

The rocking horse is also rocking somewhere else.  With that and my desk gone, I need to find some larger pieces to put in my booth.  It's a rather nice problem to have!

Yes, another olivetti sold itself pretty fast.  Ca-ching!

Winter. Maine. Hot drinks. Thermos.  All sold. No-brainer, really.

Enamel dishes, teak pepper shaker, alligator ashtrays and a Tang pitcher.  Somebody's home is getting groovier.

I also sold a LOT of mugs, but I am tired of posting mugshots, so just take my word for it.
Again, Maine. Winter. Hot drinks. Mugs. No-brainer.

Has the new year been good for your antique booth or reselling business?

  1. Looks like you had some great sales! I have had no luck at all selling mugs - I may have to work on my display techniques.

    1. I never set out to sell mugs per se, it just kind of happened when I started a little mug shelf with mainly Otagiri mugs in it. Since then I have experiented with several others, including just funny ones and touristy kinds. They seem to be a tempting quick grab for my antique store customers (just like they are for me at the thrifts!) I also price them cheap - rarely more than $5.

  2. Hey girl- fellow Mainer, what is this snow thing that is happening today? Winter is a rude guest who does not know when to leave.
Now that I said my rant...I am selling in Alfred and am wondering if I should try another place since I am breaking even or loosing money. I feel like I should give the spring and summer months a chance since those are the golden months of shopping. Keep meaning to get to your booth and check it out.

    1. Hey fellow Mainer - yes, please come by and say hi! Yes, an aweful lot of snow today, but at least I finally got around to post on my blog, while sipping tea in front of the fire place :-)

In the beginning, I broke even a couple of times in my booth (though never lost money I think, knock on wood). My place is also pretty low-scale and quirky and they don't charge commission, which is a big plus in my book. Also, it is right on US 1, so a lot of driving-by-and-stopping kinda traffic, I think. I don't know anything about Alfred, sorry. How are the other booths in your store doing? Is it just a slow season in general down there?
      Hope to see you soon!

    1. Yes, excited to put in some bigger things too, although I love my smalls the most. I have posted so much on mugs on this blog, I assume my readers must be as sick of them as I am ;-) Anyway, I sold a few firestones, Taylor and Ng, Otagiris, a couple of Disney ones (Goofy) and some touristy ones as well. I'll take it!

  4. Storing your purse is crucial! I recently had a lady start digging into mine as I was working in my booth. She said she loved the bag and wanted to see what the inside was like. Um....thanks?

    1. Oh, that is funny!! I usually use a small backpack-type purse anyway, so I guess I will be wearing it rather than stashing it away. It sure was a convenient storing place (though one time I forgot my cell phone in there - however, it was still there when I returned the next day).

  5. I hope that continues. Overheard some people in my store saying that April and May usually are pretty dead...
