Mad Maine Vintage Shop

This little blog will chronicle my ventures into selling vintage items in a local antique market.

Last Minute Easter Dress

My little girl is usually not a girly-girl at all.  She climbs tall pine trees, approaches strange dogs with no fear, and brings in pockets full of worms and caterpillars (ugh).   So, even though she wears comfy dresses, she almost always wears jeans underneath  - it's sort of a signature look for her to wear outgrown dresses as tunics over her jeans and boots.  So, when I realized (on Saturday!) that she needed an Easter dress, I sort of panicked - she had none that fit! Again, Goodwill came to the rescue with this lovely reversible Laura Ashley-style gingham and floral dress.  Probably the only pink she has worn in months.

Shopping at Goodwill is not just a hobby for me or a place to find items for my antique booth, it is incorporated into all of our family life - including children's clothes.

Did you have a nice Easter?  What second-hand treats did the Easter Bunny bring you?

    1. Thanks - yes, warm is still a key word here in Maine. She has nice wooly stockings on as well as a thick undershirt :-) Soon, however, all the snow will be gone and warmer weather will return!

  2. Oh it is adorable!!! I so wished I had shopped thrift stores when my son was young, I just did not know about them then. I would have saved so much money and he would have had a great wardrobe!!

    1. Thanks Carol! We are lucky to have such abundance of them now, and I rarely shop retail at all for my kids - and they have just as nice or even better quality stuff as many of their brand-conscious classmates :-)

  3. Thrift shopping for clothing has become so much more acceptable now - I never shopped for my children there, I should have!!!

    1. I rarely shop anywhere else - it's amazing how much good kids stuff you can get second hand!

  4. LOL, funny how having to spend your own money makes one view things a bit differently :-)

I also think you can get so much better QUALITY at the thrift stores. My kids wear a lot of thrifted Hanna Andersson, LL Bean and Gymboree, which are pretty expensive but quality brands - yet I don't spend nearly as much as all the budget moms who buy all their kids clothes at Walmart and/or Target.

  5. Aww, she looks adorable. Great look of a cute dress, funked up with some leggings! My only girl is 17 now so no more sweet dresses. I miss that.

    1. Thanks, Marci. Yes, I initially planned on white stockings, but it was too cold, so she wore her (favorite) grey wool leggings instead.
      17 I cannot even picture...she is so good at being 5 :-)

  6. She's so cute! I've thrifted a few things for The Little Dude, but not much. I need to focus more on that because he is growing so fast! I don't have the patience to sift through all those clothes though. My mom is really good at it. She is always finding great items.

    1. Thanks, Melissa.
Yes, get on with the fab finds for The Little Dude. Boys are so easy to shop for - anything with a fun dinosaur and truck make their day :-)
