Mad Maine Vintage Shop

This little blog will chronicle my ventures into selling vintage items in a local antique market.
My booth is called Mad Maine Vintage Shop - it features items inspired by a certain popular TV show,
and I am located in lovely Maine. Viva Vintage!

I finally found Jim's Picker Paradise

So, I finally found this place that I was driving all over to find the previous week.  I mean, how cool is it to go and find a place that Mike and Frank from The American Pickers went picking at, right?  However, let's just say that it was not what I expected, but not for any reasons you might think.  My Video Part II is below, but if you haven't seen Part I, you should see that first.

PART II

I so wanted to buy more treasures (like a street sign!), but since I only got to stop on our way back from vacation, the car was already full of stuff.  Next year I will go back alone, with an empty car, and with some proper gear!

Have you ever been to a place the American Pickers went to in your state?

Blueberry Mountain etc.

I have been spending this week at a little lake cabin in the Maine mountains.  Although I love coastal Maine, I must admit that inland Maine is my new favorite place - and not JUST for finding great treasures to resell.  Below is a little video showing a little climb I did to something so innocently called Blueberry Mountain.  Yeah, hubby owes me BIG!

It was worth it at the end, of course.  Also because I am going to get a lot of yard sale time in return on the way home tomorrow :-)

Thrifting in the Maine Mountains

I went to the mountainous area of Maine last week since my hubby was doing some work up there and the client paid for his room and board.  Well, his room was in a pretty decent hotel with a pool, so the kids and I decided to go and hang out there as well while he was working.  And yes, I managed to do some treasure hunting up there as well.  It's going to be hard to go shopping at Goodwill again after the amazing prices I found up in those hills!  Everything in the picture above was $30.  Cash only, baby!

This is a video recap of my thrifting adventure - let me know what you think :-)

Travel Haul (and Money Already Made Back)

Here is part of my travel haul from my trip to Virginia.  Both of these lovely kitchen items will go in my vintage booth (I so prefer to call it vintage rather than antique booth these days since I hardly ever sell anything antique).  I was very tempted to keep this fondue pot (look at those fantastic legs!), but I do not need another one, so in the booth it will go.  The lovely egg cups were made in West Germany.  I want to keep those too, but I ain't gonna!

Below is a video where I describe my entire haul - and I will show you the one purchase that I already sold on ebay that paid for the rest of the haul.  I love it when one thing sells and makes everything else pure profit, don't you?

Several of you commented on my last post/video saying that you also thrift on vacation (or wish you could!).  I am glad I am not alone...  Also, a big shout-out to SuzieQ for telling me the history about Asylum Street in CT - I loved that back story, thank you!!!

So, who is looking forward to summer and summer thrifts and flea markets as much as I am?

Do you thrift on vacation?

One of my favorite things to do on vacation is to find the area's thrift stores, flea markets and antique malls.  Last week I went on a quick family trip to Virginia, where I used to live, and got to revisit several of my favorite thrift spots.  It was like seeing long lost friends!  Below is a video that shows a few clips from my thrift part of my trip.  Do you thrift when on vacation?

Fan Mail

I found this beauty in another booth at my antique market, a bit more grimy and cigarette scented.  Oh, how I love a good-looking fan.  I cleaned him up a bit (a lot), and isn't he handsome?  All industrial and full of brawn in my eyes!  I will put him back in my booth soon, but in the meantime I enjoy looking at him at home. (Yes, anything this industrial and with such patina is a "he").

Below is my latest haul video - the picture freezes up in the beginning, but if you wait a bit it goes back to normal.  I have found that I like making youtube videos, possibly more so than blogging.  There is something so "immediate" about watching videos, and I find myself gravitating a bit more towards this community.  I still like my blogging world and my blogging friends, and I am not going anywhere.  I think I will have to write a post about the two worlds as I personally see it.  That said, I am about to sip my afternoon coffee and read some blog posts by my favorite bloggers.

Do you regularly go on youtube to watch homemade videos?

Aqua Splendor (Once Again)

I only had one hour to spend at Goodwill last weekend, but it was a good hour.  Another aqua typewriter, and this one came with a case.  For more of the finds, see video below.

Do these things happen in threes?  Will there be another aqua love around the corner soon?  If so, I will grab it. Hands off, people!

What was your favorite find last weekend?

Coming to you LIVE from my antique booth!

Ok, I chartered into new territory today. When I went to my booth this afternoon, I thought I'd make a little video instead of taking pictures.  Here is a little clip of Mad Maine, the vintage booth.

So, let me know what you think. By the way, I can't believe I forgot to add my owl shelf in my video, ugh!  Also, I now wish I had done this when my booth was a bit better stocked - it seems a little "empty" right now.  At least you all know what that means - thrift runs coming up!

Do you like watching videos when reading blogs?  If you like, you can always subscribe to my brand new channel on YouTube - I am the new kid on the block with no youtube friends ;-)
