Mad Maine Vintage Shop

This little blog will chronicle my ventures into selling vintage items in a local antique market.
My booth is called Mad Maine Vintage Shop - it features items inspired by a certain popular TV show,
and I am located in lovely Maine. Viva Vintage!

It made my day

You know how I said yesterday that it had been more than a week since I stopped by a thrift shop?  Well, just writing that made me think that it wouldn't hurt to just pop in for a quick stop while out doing other errands in the same area.  So that is what I did - to hell with resolutions such as waiting until the bigger antique booth is available.

True love at last

And guess what - there it was! A lovely aqua typewriter, exactly like I have been looking for for years!  I have never found a decent typewriter out in the wild, and I often sigh when reading about them turning up seemingly everywhere for other vintage-loving bloggers.  Mine had just been put on the shelf - with a price sticker of $9.99, which is normally well above my flinch point when shopping at Goodwill - but it was perfect!  It even works.  So what if there was no case.  It's the typewriter I want!  Now, I know this should go in my booth, but I sure am going to enjoy it for awhile at home before then.  If only there was a way to type up a blog post on it...

Have you found the one thing you have been looking for when you were not supposed to be shopping at all?

(BTW, this is linked up on Apron Thrift Girl - the one and only.)

  1. I found that same exact typewriter several months ago! It's sooo cute, isn't it? So petite and mod looking. I haven't been able to list it in my shop...I just can't bring myself to part with it. Congrats on your find!

    1. I hear you. I figure that the thing is so old and has been sitting around somebody's attic for a long time, it will not hurt it to sit around a little bit in my home. It's like having a brand new toy!

  3. Congrats on your find. Two weeks ago, I found a typewriter, in the case, for $2 but the letters were cloudy with mold. Broke my heart! I looked at it 3 TIMES, perhaps hoping that the mold had miraculously disappeared, hah!
I called your shop, they had a $100 space available. I am so, so on the fence, that is a lot of money to begin...
Really enjoy hearing your ups and downs.

    1. I absolutely think you should give it a go! The great thing about Cliff's is that you don't have to sign a lease for months like other antique malls. This is why I finally took the plunge - I knew I could bow out if it was not for me. But so far I love it and am really looking forward to getting a larger space. By the way, Oct 15 my old space will be available and that one is less than $100 ($85 to be exact). Another thing that is great about this place is that they don't charge commission - again, most antique malls take at least 10% of your sales.

Bummer about the moldy lettes on the typewriter. I can deal with cleaning most things, but mold is an exception. Too bad.

Hope to see you at my antique market soon - it would be great to meet a fellow thrifter here in Maine :-)

  4. Great find! Isn't it tough to part with things that logic tells us to sell?!

    1. Yes - I am going to need a 10-step program to give up this typewriter!
