This little blog will chronicle my ventures into selling vintage items in a local antique market.

How do you thrift on crutches?
So, I went skiing in the mountains for winter vacation, and on the second to last day I caught ice (on the bunny slope(!) teaching my daughter how to snowplow), twisted my knee around and was pulled down the remainder of the mountain by ski patrol.
I have always wondered what it would be like getting rescued by a red jacket with the white cross on it, but when it actually happened, it wasn't nearly as sexy as I had envisioned.
Anyway, after a tedious ER visit 2 hours away from the mountain, I was finally discharged with crutches and some awesome pain meds. Luckily, nothing is broken, but my knee is busted, and I will be out of commission for a while. And yes, hobbling around on crutches wearing ski garb makes one feel like a massive stereotype.
However, now that the dust has settled and I am home again, I am realizing that being on crutches is going to have some major impact on my thrifting abilities. I also can't imagine going to the antique shop like this since I will probably knock down everything in sight.
How was your winter break? Any suggestions as to how one can successfully pop some tags while on crutches???

oh no!!!! i hope you have a speedy recovery!!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a bummer. I hope it gets better soon! Sounds like it is time to drag your kiddos to the thrift shop with you so someone can push the cart. Ooooh...or find one of those scooter chairs! That would be fun!
ReplyDeleteUggh! Sorry about your knee! I was on crutches for a while and never did get the hang of doing anything while on them. However, I reasoned that they were better than an arm cast because I could still wash my hair. I had to take the Mister with me to thrifts. That one is gonna be a tough one!
ReplyDeleteThis is not good, my sympathies. What about attaching a web cam onto the head/hat of a child/friendly adult and have them shop for you? Or, enlist a sympathetic fellow thrifter to shop for certain items, with a budget. That might be fun, having another thrift sister's money to get my fix...you are really going to be going through some serious thrift store withdrawal or ELSE...you may lose your thrift mojo. Get better fast and watch out for the ice.
ReplyDeleteWell, I hate to hear this, but...Come on, if you had to have an injury, it is so much classier than slipping in the tub!! Oh Goodness, I was on crutches for 4 months once and it is really tough, I remember using a back pack....I just know yo will find a way...Wishing you a speedy recovery!
